Ontic Donates more than $34,000 to American Cancer Society

Ontic's Chatsworth facility named top fundraising group in California

Ontic, a BBA Aviation company and the aerospace industry’s leading provider of ‘Extended Life Solutions’ for OEM legacy products, recently donated a grand total of $34,286 to the American Cancer Society. With the help of their colleagues, family and friends around the world, as well as a contribution from parent company BBA Aviation’s Charitable Giving Program, Ontic’s Chatsworth team took the top spot as the number one fundraising group in California and number 12 ranking in the nation.

Ontic in Chatsworth, CA has participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and fundraising for the last three years. This year’s event was especially significant as the company recently lost members of their own team in the battle with cancer. With heavy hearts, the Ontic team organized several fundraising opportunities throughout 2015, led by Simon Harper, Sr. Manufacturing Engineer.

“The prior two years, Ontic supported the 24-hour Relay for Life event, but we chose to make 2015 bigger than ever,” Harper said. "A week before the event, we organized a Relay Rally to help raise awareness, support and money. We also held a bake sale and pie-in-the-face raffle in honor of those lost."

Relay for Life’s event in Glendale, CA, was one of many events organized by the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research and spread awareness of the effects of the disease. The event invites teams to select members to walk around a track for the duration of the 24-hour event. This is usually done in shifts and when team members aren’t walking, they host various activities at their team booths.

The Ontic booth featured items for sale, raffle tickets, fun games and even a magic show by an employee’s son. Harper explained that employees and their families spent in excess of 2500 total hours planning and participating in the event.

The American Cancer Society awarded Ontic with the Highest Fundraising team award at the Relay for Life event. Ontic donated $18,686 to the charity and later added BBA Aviation’s Charitable Giving Program check of $15,600 to its final donation.

“The support from employees throughout Ontic and BBA Aviation companies, plus their families and friends helped make our efforts a huge success,” Harper said. “The recognition from BBA Aviation and the effect this disease has had on the Ontic Chatsworth facility this year made this an equally challenging, but rewarding year.”
